Chapter 01

In their own words

SR

Siti Rahimah

Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

"I came in with a vague feeling that my apartment wasn't working. Aisha visited, spent two hours asking questions I hadn't thought to ask myself, and sent a document afterwards that made everything clearer. The design itself felt like it came from inside my head — not her portfolio."

David Lim

Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur

"What I appreciated most was that they didn't try to upsell me into a bigger scope. I needed the First Chapter Meeting and the notes were genuinely useful. When I was ready to proceed six months later, they remembered exactly what we'd discussed."

Priya Nair

Petaling Jaya, Selangor

"The Closing Chapter Support was worth every ringgit. Reza handled the contractors better than I would have managed on my own — there were two moments where things might have gone sideways and he caught them before they did. The final styling session was a genuinely lovely afternoon."

Ahmad Kamal

Damansara Heights, KL

"I was sceptical about paying for a First Chapter Meeting before committing to anything. Turned out to be the most useful hour I spent on the project. The written notes gave us a clear direction and the 3D visuals later were so close to what we'd imagined it felt almost uncanny."

Yeo Wei Lin

Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur

"Tze Wei's specification document saved us from three separate contractor misunderstandings. We'd worked with a different designer before and ended up with a kitchen bench that was 8cm too high. This time every single measurement was in writing and the contractor followed it."

Farah Melissa

Taman Tun, Kuala Lumpur

"The process takes longer than I expected — but honestly that was a me problem, not theirs. They were upfront about the timeline from the start. The end result is a study that I actually want to spend time in. That's new for me."

Chapter 02

Project stories in more detail

Three projects described from starting point to outcome.

Condominium · KLCC · Full Story Design

Challenge

High ceilings, low warmth

A 1,400 sq ft KLCC condominium with generous floor-to-ceiling height that felt cold and hard to furnish. The client had tried three different furniture arrangements without success.

Solution

Zones within the volume

We used ceiling height differences, a combination of pendant and floor lighting, and textile layering to create sub-zones within the open plan. The space was divided without being walled.

Result

A room that reads as four

The clients now use the space for remote work, entertaining, reading, and watching films — all within the same floor plate. Timeline: 8 weeks for design, 12 weeks for implementation.

Terrace House · Bangsar South · Full Story + Closing Chapter

Challenge

Dark ground floor

A mid-terrace house in Bangsar South with a ground floor that received almost no natural light. Previous tenants had compensated with heavy artificial lighting that only made the space feel more closed.

Solution

Material and colour response

We selected plaster finishes in warm whites with high light-reflectance values, introduced a skylight above the staircase, and specified timber rather than stone for flooring to keep warmth underfoot.

Result

60% reduction in daytime lighting

The client now keeps artificial lights off until evening. The staircase skylight became the talking point of the house. Total project duration: 18 weeks.

Personal Studio · Petaling Jaya · First Chapter Meeting

Challenge

Work and rest in one room

A freelance illustrator working from a single 12 sq m room in Petaling Jaya. The space needed to function as studio, meeting room, and rest space without feeling chaotic.

Solution

Written spatial strategy

The First Chapter Meeting produced a detailed written note outlining a wall-mounted storage solution, a foldable work surface, and a separation strategy using a simple fabric curtain on a ceiling track.

Result

Self-implemented, cost under MYR 2,000

The client sourced and installed everything themselves using our notes as a guide. The MYR 440 meeting was the only design cost. She's referred two other clients since.
